  • Looking into the Future of Smart Machines: To Argue How an Ai Can Behave Ethically Right.
  • Juhendaja: Tanel Kärp, Nesli Hazal Oktay

A frame to demonstrate the future of our communication with Ai-powered machines through drawing.

We already have Artificial Intelligence implemented in the technologies that we are using every day. Although not only have we not prepared ourselves to face this strange human-made creature, but also our data is not structured and classified for this intellectual technology. In this research I will study the situations in the future where Ai can interact with humans in their everyday life. The purpose is to have a clear understanding of the role of smart machines in humans’ everyday life and the gap in the expectation via their responsibility as intellectual machines. Then to simulate and demonstrate the situation for people in the current time to raise the discussion around humans vs Ai interactions and to pivot their focus to have an awareness of the existence of intellectual machines in the near future.

As an example, you can think of how it would be to have a close friend everywhere with you. As an assumption that it will happen to us, imagine that “close friend” as a smart machine that is powered by artificial intelligence and it is with you everywhere. How would you like to give them access to all the different data you are producing based on every pulse passing through your nerves? What kind of friend is this Ai for you? To answer these questions, we need to know first how an Ai works, what will be the role of the Ai in the future, and then to know what will do with that information that it collects.

The technologies living in another world we made, the virtual world of the internet, were always strange at the start of their invention. Then when we got used to them, they became popular, and we felt safe to have them with us. This feeling had rational reasons due to the regulators and organisations like “Fight for the Future” looking into the future of humans via smart tech. However, after smart machines started to grow and we realised that they were being controlled by companies, we saw how it is not really safe. It is the time that lawyers and governors carefully studied that tech and how we can safely use them, and the companies can safely give us their product. Through the last decades, we saw how this tech could be harmful if we are not prepared for having it with the proper structure.

To organise and plan for any similar situation for new techs being invented in Silicon Valley or any other birthplace, we have to have a good imagination or research to see the possible future. Then to classify the levels of interaction and also to have a broad knowledge over the privacy laws. This is just a start to preparing the stakeholders. But there are more preliminaries we have to prepare for the dynamic technology for our lively population.

But here, I intend to focus on the interaction between humans and Ai in the future to see the hidden layers of it. How ethically, not intentionally or by any bias or failure, could be harmful to the human population. It, of course, can include all human kinds, but I will decrease my target group to a sample that I can expand that study to a reasonable amount later. Additionally, it can be scientifically reliable and trustworthy. Therefore, the scope of the study will be shaped in the initial research. Moreover, the purpose of the study will be more specific to a limited area of interaction to avoid the complexity of massive systems and be more specific in conclusion.
