  • Not-a-mug – Search for a new ceramic product
  • Tutor: Maarja Mõtus, Raili Keiv

The goal of the work was to make people see ceramics differently. By creating an alternative product to ceramic dishes that would not be another mug, a so to speak “not-a-mug”. I got acquainted with the Estonian ceramics industry through the examples of Tallinn Art Ceramics Factory and Saviton. Not-a-mug offers an innovative and experimental home furnishing product that can be produced on the existing ceramic ware production lines. The shape of the ceramic details a ceramic fireplaces modular solution. Unlike a fireplace, Not-a-mug’s modules can be disassembled and reassembled in multiple ways. Not-a-mug values ceramics by bringing it out of the kitchen cabinets and placing it in the living room and offering the material a new function.
