In my painting series, I study my interest towards combining childish drawing (while being based on the drawn characters from my daughters’ artwork) and the classically constructed oil painting and the painting process layer by layer, based on several photographic references. I am intrigued by the way the clumsy characters relate to a realistic plan. It is exactly the clashing of these two worlds that I find fascinating – appearance of grotesque, clumsy characters to the “world of adults”, a place with fixed and familiar rules as well as the children themselves who have not yet learned the rules of this world but nevertheless they are as real as the rest of the world surrounding them. Paint has the ability to build various forms and materials together; also, different eras can be synthesized and summed up on the surface of a painting.
